How to promote artist online #baseonstreet
The best and most important tools for online music marketing is what we all want, right? Joy Ike is a full-time singer/songwriter based out of Philadelphia, PA. She is also the founder and primary writer for Grassrootsy, one of the most-read music business blogs on the internet. She believes the greatest tragedy in the world is having a talent and keeping it to yourself. - Below is her list of the ten most important tools for online music marketing:
"I don’t doubt that you’ve probably heard of every single item on this list. But it’s easy to forget just how many (often free) resources are at your disposal and the ways in which they can help you market your music. So consider this a reminder. In this post, I’ll share why each online tool is helpful and some ways to use them well.
1. Mailing list
For the average artist, the mailing list is that thing you put in the back of the room on your semi-professional-looking merch table. You don’t encourage people to sign up and your average fan doesn’t even know you have one. What’s worse is that you rarely use it and you probably send out one newsletter update every four months #majorfail
BUT your mailing list is the single most important marketing tool you have at your disposal. Social media (we’ll talk more about that later), is great and all, but no one can keep track of everything in their feeds. And platforms (like Facebook) are making it increasingly harder to get your information across if you’re not paying for advertising.
Your newsletter is free advertising and allows you to target meaningful information to a group of people who are already die-hard fans! Use it...and please send out at least 1 newsletter per month. Never underestimate the fact that you can reach your biggest fans with a click of a Send button.
2. Website
Facebook is not a website. Bandcamp is not a website. In fact, your ugly, unmanageable, hard to navigate website is not a website. There, I said it! Artists underestimate the power of websites just as much as they do their newsletters. Fans want a one-stop-shop where they can listen to your music, watch videos, learn about upcoming shows, and find out more about you. The easier it is to find you, the easier it is to follow you.
Furthermore, venues are more biased towards artists who represent themselves well by having a professional looking online presence. Do yourself a favor and create something with Bandzoogle. Their designs are simple, clean, and easy to use.
Bandzoogle websites have built-in mailing lists and the tools you need to step it up. Sign up free now!
3. Indie on the Move
Indie on the Move is an absolute must-have for the traveling artists. Cutting through Indianapolis on tour and need to find a coffeehouse within 30 miles that hosts live music on weeknights? IOTM will be your best-friend.
They have the most extensive database of venues all across the United States. They allow you to search by city or within a mile radius of a zip code. Venue listings also include comments and reviews by musicians who have already played that venue. They’ll tell you how management was, if the payout was decent, and if the room fit their style, among other things. IOTM is invaluable.
4. Facebook
Every artist should use Facebook. And most do...sort of. The thing is, Facebook will work for you if you let it. But it’s not as effective as the average artist wants it to be. The thing is, half-spirited posts, status updates at the wrong time of day, lengthy posts that no one will get through, over-posting, and inviting people in Pennsylvania to your show in LA are only just a handful of the ridiculous mistakes that musicians make every single day. Do yourself a favor and read up on some Facebook best practices.
5. Twitter
With the advent of Instagram, artists don’t always see the value in Twitter. After all, Instagram is kind of like Twitter with the added bonus of pictures. But Twitter appeals to an older generation and you can still find more business using it over Instagram.
The key to taking advantage of Twitter is tagging...and again, it will only work as much as you let it. Make sure you not only tag fellow musicians and venues when you’re talking about a show, but use hashtag keywords that specifically apply to your event and the city you’re in.
6. Instagram
Instagram will be your best friend...especially if your music appeals to a younger audience. In fact, you might start using it more than any other social media platform. People love photos, plain and simple. But they don’t like ads.
Take it slow with posting show posters, and things that look too polished. Find ways to be creative with your show promo while still capturing the essence of the organic nature of Instagram. Here are two great examples of how to remind your fans about a show on Instagram without saying "hey, come to my show" for the one-hundreth time: Example 1. Example 2.
Also remember, the beauty of Instagram is that you have the opportunity of sharing everyday things with your fans - what you ate, clips from new songs you’re working on, and the bite your dog took out of your lyric notebook.
7. YouTube
YouTube is in fact a marketing tool. Think of it as your audio/visual business card. It gives people a 3-dimensional idea of who you are. Upload videos often and share them even more often. Check out this post for another great way to use your YouTube account. 8 Effective Strategies to Sell Your Music Online
8. Bandcamp
Besides being a use-friendly platform for musicians to share music, sell music, offer free download codes, and create audio widgets for your website; Bandcamp is ever-evolving and finding ways to help artists maintain more control over how they share their content. They also do a great job curating and promoting music on the platform to encourage customers to discover new music.
9. SoundCloud
SoundCloud is the Industry standard. It’s where fans and fan-makers alike go to find and listen to new music. SoundCloud offers a different experience than any other resource by letting fans comment on songs and share thoughts such as a favorite verse, other songs that they think of when they hear yours, or opinions about specific instruments on the track...etc. With the exchange of ideas and opinions, SoundCloud could be considered one of the very first music crowdsourcing platforms.
10. NoiseTrade
NoiseTrade is all about exposure and offers a pretty simple strategy. 1. Upload your song. 2. Offer it as a free download in exchange for downloader’s email address. 3. Build your fanbase. Musicians love it because, just like SoundCloud, it allows you to control the spreading of your music while also helping you build your newsletter.
Now that you know which tools you're going to use, be sure to create a music marketing plan to put them into action: 5 Steps to Creating an Effective Music Marketing Plan."

10 Best song produced by Don jazzy
It may surprise you to know that music producer and
label owner Don Jazzy has spent more than 10 years in the industry
producing great hits. When the work is good and evergreen not many will
notice as the years pass. As the legendary hit-maker turns 33 today and
as part of our Throwback Thursday, we look at some of the great hits
produced by him in the last decade to celebrate his substantial
contribution to Nigeria’s music industry.

Tiwa Savage and Don Jazzy in the studio.
1. You Bad
This song takes us back to the good old days of
Mo’hits Records. One of Wande Coal’s best ever songs, the lyrics are
well constructed to woo any attractive lady be it fat or slim. Don
Jazzy’s beats were superb as he displayed professionalism in music
production once more.

2. Bumper To Bumper
Bumper to Bumper will go down as Wande Coal’s biggest song. It was
the track that sold him to us. Don Jazzy’s beats and backing vocals more
than made the song.
3. Oliver Twist
Oliver Twist was the last official collaboration between Don Jazzy
and his former partner D’banj. It was the song that sold the latter to
an international audience especially in the UK. The beats-boxing was on
point and really pushed the sound to a different level.
4. Mobolowowon
This was one of the songs that introduced D’banj to limelight. The
singer narrated his struggles overseas and his return to Nigeria
pursue music. This is one of the rare track where D’banj plays his
harmonica. The track was also one of Don Jazzy’s introductory tracks
back in the days.
5. Surulere
Surulere by Dr. Sid was proof that Don Jazzy can make a star out
of anyone. As the name implies, (Surulere) meaning patience. That was
what worked for Dr. Sid as he moved fast to becoming the top act in Don
Jazzy’s pecking order.
6. Dorobucci
Some critics call it the song of the decade, others say it’s not
worth the hype. Whichever side you are on, the awards it has garnered
since its release has determined its impact. Dorobucci introduced the
acts on Don Jazzy’s new record label, Mavin Records. It featured Don
Jazzy and Mo’Hits veterans Dr. Sid and D’Prince as well as new acts Tiwa
Savage, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello and Di’Ja.
7. Scape Goat
Scapegoat was the track that caught Kanye West’s attention and led
to the beginning of the end for Mo’Hits. Kanye was on its remix. It
featured the magic combination D’Banj and Don Jazzy, something that fans
still long for, three years after the acrimonious split of the best duo
out of Nigeria.
8. Pere
Like Dorobucci for Mavin, Pere was the song that
introduced the Nigerian music lovers to the Mo’hits crew. It was the
first hint that Don Jazzy knew how to work artists to bring out the best
in them, playing to their strengths.
9. Ten Ten
In Ten ten Don Jazzy played to the rythm of the
popular children’s game of teh same name, creating a playful beat that
was great to rap to and dance to. a
10. Eminado
Eminado was veered away from Don
Jazzy’s usual hard dance beats. Produced for Tiwa Savage, the softer
sound complemented the singer’s sweet voice.
Taylor swift accused of endangering a bird in her music video
CONSERVATIONISTS in New Zealand on
Thursday accused Taylor Swift of endangering a rare bird species while
shooting a music video near Auckland but the film’s producers said they
were responsible, not the US singer.
The
25-year-old pop superstar slipped into New Zealand this week to film the
video at Bethells Beach, a popular seaside town just outside the city. The chairwoman of the Waitakere Ranges Local Board Sandra Coney said Swift’s production company was given permission to film on the beach, which is home to the critically endangered New Zealand dotterel.

“It’s really disappointing that such a large number of vehicles would park all over the beach and drive all over the beach,” Coney told Radio New Zealand.
Swift’s London-based representatives for Europe sent AFP a statement from Cherokee Films, the local film production company, saying: “We accept responsibility and apologise for this situation.
“Taylor Swift and her management team were in no way at fault and did not do anything that violated permits or ordinances,” the statement said.
It added that no dotterels were harmed during the filming, guidelines on nesting sites were adhered to and “at no time were the film crew close to that habitat”.

“Because they are so hard to see, nests are sometimes crushed by people, vehicles, horses or stock,” it says.
Coney, a veteran environmental activist in the area, said she would ask Auckland council to investigate the behaviour of those involved.
Despite admitting she was a fan of Swift’s pop-country warblings, Coney was in no mood to follow the advice of the singer’s biggest hit “Shake It Off”.
“I don’t know whether ‘Shake It Off’ is the right thing,” she said. “But she’s got another song (“Wildest Dreams”) that says ‘say you’ll remember me’, maybe I’ll do that instead.”

Secret relationship between Katie Holmes and Jamie foxx
SHHH … Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx still don’t want people to know they’re an item.
Although the actors have been denying dating rumours since 2013, an insider tells Page Six that the two are still very much hot and heavy.“She is head over heels for him,” dished the source. “But they don’t want to fuel any of the rumours so Jamie has been avoiding attending parties she’s been going to.”
The 36-year-old actress — who has been spotted solo at recent events in New York and LA — hasn’t been in a public relationship since her high-profile divorce from Tom Cruise in July 2012 after nearly six years of marriage.

Foxx, 47, has been hitting the party circuit solo, too. On Saturday, the Oscar winner stepped out for Loren Ridinger’s birthday bash in Miami without the Dawson’s Creek star by his side.
“Katie and Jamie have a fun and playful relationship and have gotten even closer in the past few months,” added the source. “Suri gets along with him super well, too.”
The actors are both parents. While Holmes is mum to Suri, Foxx has two daughters, who are six and 21.
Requests for comment from both stars’ reps were not immediately returned.

$15 million indamages Clock boy
’Clock boy’ seeking $15 million in damages
As many as seven adults teamed up to interrogate the 14-year-old boy after a teacher mistook his homemade clock for a bomb and pressured him to sign a confession, according to the “letter of demand” from his lawyer warning of plans to file a $15 million suit.
Ahmed’s September arrest, deemed an overreaction by many observers, drew waves of sympathy and extensive news coverage; President Obama invited him to join several other science-inclined students at the White House’s “Astronomy Night” last month.
But his family, which shortly thereafter took up a benefactor’s offer to relocate to Qatar, argued in the letter that the boy’s reputation has been “permanently scarred.” They are seeking not only financial reparations but written apologies from the city’s mayor and police chief.
“Everyone in the country and around the world believes this has been a wonderful experience for Ahmed’s family, and in some ways, it has been,” said Anthony Bond, a family friend. “But now they are settled in Qatar, they have realized they are tremendously traumatized.”The letters elaborate on the timeline of the arrest, which set the Internet into a frenzy and changed a 14-year-old boy’s life forever.
The letter of demand alleges that officials at Ahmed’s school never really thought that his homemade clock, assembled from “spare parts and scrap pieces he had around the house,” was a bomb. Attorneys claim that Ahmed showed it to another teacher earlier in the day without consequence. But in his English class, a teacher told him it “looked like” a bomb.
An Irving School District spokeswoman said the district received the letter of demand this morning and that its own lawyers would “respond as appropriate, as with any legal matter,” but otherwise offered no comment.
Attorneys blame the school district and the city for “stoking the flames” and placing blame on Ahmed even after it was decided he would not be criminally charged and his “suspicious-looking item” was not a threat.
The family is demanding an apology from Van Duyne and others involved because they would like to return to Irving, attorney Kelly Hollingsworth said.
“Qatar is nice, but it is not Texas. That is their attitude toward this,” Hollingsworth said. “They are citizens of Irving, Texas, USA, first. Are they devout people devoted to their faith? Absolutely. But they are Texans, too, and they want to come home. What we are seeking is for them to be able to do that with their heads held high.”
“The generosity and support Ahmed has received has been very much appreciated, but what the system has to do is try to find a way to redress him,” Hollingsworth said. “What’s the effect of this young man having his reputation in the global community scarred for the rest of his life?”
kylie Jenner and tyga update
Kylie Jenner and Tyga have reportedly split and, unlike most Hollywood breakups, we can't say we're too bummed out.
Rumors that the pair had called it quits emerged earlier this morning after it was reported that Jenner, 18, was not at Tyga's birthday party. According to TMZ, the couple split suddenly on Thursday after Jenner returned from Australia.
While TMZ's source wouldn't elaborate on what went down between the two, the source claims "It's something Tyga did," while another source claims it's Kylie who ended things, as she was allegedly feeling "pressure" from her family.
E! News is also reporting the split and, when it comes to anything Kardashian-related, you can pretty much guarantee they know what they are talking about.

Rumors that Jenner and the 26-year-old rapper were dating began popping up in October 2014, just three months after the reality star celebrated her 17th birthday. While the couple tried to play it off as though they were just friends, Jenner's brother-in-law Kanye West spilled the beans this past February in a radio interview. When asked if he thought the relationship was "inappropriate," he burst out laughing.
"I think he got in early, I think he was smart. They are closer in age than a lot of relationships that I know. I knew Tyga was smart," Kanye said. "Yeah, I can't speak on nobody's relationship."
The couple waited until Jenner finally turned 18 on Aug. 10 to go public with their relationship, and you better believe they were vocal about their feelings for each other -- starting with the $320,000 Ferrari Tyga bought Jenner as a gift for finally not being underage.
And once they didn't have to hide their relationship, things got explicit and uncomfortable for everyone else. A few days after she turned 18, Jenner appeared in Tyga's video for "Stimulated." The lyrics read like an ode to statutory rape, with lines including “They say she young, I shoulda waited / She a big girl, dog, when she stimulated," and "She a big girl, dog / I'm gonna do what the fuck I wanna do when I wanna do / She a big girl, dog / I'm puttin' in, I'm penetratin'/ I'm gettin' big, I'm stimulated."
The rapper continued to rap about his sex life with Jenner, rapping "She like to fuck me, suck me, suck then fuck me / I'm the ice cream man, she chunky monkey" on "Ice Cream Man."
No word so far on what Tyga might have done to cause Jenner to break up with him, but it must have been pretty bad. This message from Kylie's sister Kendall Jenner is thought to be directed at him, although it's unclear.
The Huffington Post reached out to Tyga and Jenner's reps for comment and has yet to hear back
